Fair is not the same as favourable
Simulated sport is one of the few gambling products where fairness can be demonstrated rather than promised, because the result is computed and can be re-derived. That is genuinely worth something. It is also worth being precise about what is being demonstrated, because a certified generator and a favourable product are two different claims.
Frame 01What fairness means in a number generator
When a product says its random number generator is fair, it means two specific things. First, that the numbers are unpredictable: no one, including the operator, can know the next value before it is produced. Second, that the numbers match a stated distribution: outcomes that are claimed to be rare really are rare, over a large sample, rather than being quietly weighted against the player.
Both of those are properties of the draw. Neither of them is a property of the payout. A generator can be perfectly unpredictable and perfectly distributed and still sit behind a product that returns less than it takes in, because the return is set by the prices rather than by the numbers. Keeping those two facts apart is the whole point of this page.

Frame 02Certification and proof are different mechanisms
Two families of scheme are used to give players confidence, and they trade off differently. An audited generator relies on an institution: a testing laboratory examines the engine, runs statistical tests and certifies the result. A provably fair scheme relies on arithmetic: the operator publishes a commitment to a seed before the event, reveals the seed afterwards, and the player can re-derive the result and check that it matches what was shown.

Both can be honest at once
A product may be certified and provably fair, and still have a margin inside every price. The two mechanisms answer questions about honesty, not about return, and no certification anywhere converts a negative-expectation product into a favour.
Frame 03What integrity covers, and what it does not
The word integrity in real sport usually refers to the honesty of the competition: no doping, no match-fixing, no inside information. In a generated product most of that vocabulary does not apply, because there is no competition to fix and no one to bribe. What remains is the honesty of the engine, which is a narrower and more tractable question — and easier to answer than almost anything in real sport.
That the engine produces unpredictable numbers matching a stated distribution, and that a specific result was the one the committed seed produced.
That there is no event to manipulate, no athlete to bribe and no insider with advance knowledge, because nothing real is taking place.
Whether the margin leaves the player ahead over time. It does not, by construction, and no fairness scheme changes that.
Whether the product should be offered to a given person at a given hour of the night. That is a question about pace and availability, not about randomness.
Frame 04The honest summary of fairness here
The unusual thing about a generated product is that its integrity is more verifiable than that of a real sporting event. On a real match you must trust officials, laboratories and governing bodies to protect a contest you can only partly see. On a generated event you can, in principle, verify the exact computation that produced the result. That is a real advantage, and it should be stated plainly rather than dismissed.
What it does not do is change the arithmetic underneath. The value of a provably fair scheme is that it rules out one specific abuse — the operator quietly altering results — and that is worth having. It is not a claim about whether the product is a good place for your money, because that question is answered by the prices rather than by the seeds.
